Egairo:
A not-for-profit organization that provides free flights for special medical or humanitarian needs.

Our Mission

The mission of Egairo, put simply, is to provide cost-free flights to those with special medical needs. Based at the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport in Springfield, Ohio, Egairo’s planes have traveled many locations fulfilling that very mission. Since Egairo’s inception in 2000, this non-profit organization has helped almost 100 individuals and families to date, and with more funds will continue to help as many people as they can.

There may be a special treatment available in a distant state, but only for a limited time, or the patient may have a pressing physical need for the treatment. While all of our clients are mobile, they often cannot tolerate the rigors of a commercial flight or afford the expense of a charter flight. Rather than deal with the layovers, delays, and security requirements that a commercial flight can take on someone physically, Egairo offers a refreshing option—expedient, timely, and safe transporation at no cost.

Many of Egairo’s passengers need to get to a treatment center or medical facility as soon as possible. Once the necessary funding for an individual flight is in, and the patient has been approved by LifeLine Pilots or AngelFlight, the staff at Egairo will coordinate with the passenger and finalize all the arrangements. An Egairo plane will pick up the patient (along with a possible traveling companion), and continue on to the location of the medical treatment.

The specifics of each individual mission, such as the location of the treatment center, will change flight to flight depending on the passenger, but the attention and care shown to each person remains the same. Upon picking up the passenger, and possible traveling companion, the volunteers at Egairo will make each flight as comfortable and hassle-free as possible.

When seating is available, Egairo likes to send an additional volunteer to sit with the patient, to offer aid and conversation as they are flown to their destination. The majority of patients view the flight as a very positive experience during an otherwise difficult time in their lives.

The volunteers at Egairo continue to work meeting the needs of all of its passengers. It is their mission to offer safe and caring air transportation to those in need of a flight. It is a simple but challenging goal that has not changed once over the years, and will not change, so long as there are people who require this type of assistance. With an all-volunteer staff, their ambition of helping as many people as possible only continues to expand, and if you’re interested at all in contributing to the mission of Egairo, you can donate directly, or contact president Brian MacLeod via email at bmacleod@egairo.org
